Forest industry to pay tribute to tragic loss

Representatives of Australia’s forest industries will observe silence to show respect for the four forestry workers who died on Saturday in South Australia’s South East.

The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) said the tribute will be observed during an all-of-industry annual dinner at Parliament House in Canberra on Wednesday evening.

AFPA’s South Australian Manager, Clare Scriven, who will attend the dinner, said the deaths of four workers from a single forest contracting company was a tragedy that was felt throughout the region.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the young men, as well as the staff of Tabeel Trading, where they worked,” Ms Scriven said.  “We all have families and work mates we care deeply about, and can only imagine the shock and pain they are experiencing.

“The observation of silence at the start of the Parliamentary Friends of Forestry and Forest Products dinner in Canberra will be one small opportunity for the industry to acknowledge the tragic loss of these four young men and show our support and compassion for their families.”
