A new united voice for SA forest industries

MEDIA RELEASE

The national peak body for the forest, wood and paper products industry, the Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA), has today announced an historic leap forward for the South Australian forest industries with the establishment, for the first time, of a state based Association presence to further the interests of the forest industries of SA.

AFPA Chair Mr Greg McCormack said, “I am delighted to reveal that Ms Clare Scriven has been appointed as the state manager for AFPA SA.  Ms Scriven has extensive experience in public policy and government relations and will be able utilise this knowledge to further the opportunities for forest industries in the state.  Ms Scriven will liaise directly with the State Parliament of SA and will provide a united advocacy voice for the almost 7,000 direct and 15,000 indirect employees working in the forest, wood and paper products industry in South Australia.  Ms Scriven will commence the role in the new year.”

Mr McCormack said, “This is a very exciting development for the South Australian industry, which generates more than $1.5 billion each year. Every other state has its own state-capital based advocacy body, and it’s time South Australia had a dedicated industry voice to ensure the full forest products value chain in SA is represented in deliberations which affect our ability to grow and create regional jobs.”

“Although Ms Scriven will be based in Adelaide to ensure regular contact with the SA Government and Opposition, the role will require significant time spent in Mt Gambier and the Green Triangle region, which is truly the heart of the industry in South Australia.  Ms Scriven lived in the region throughout her youth and she is keen to promote the interests of the area in this new role.”

“I must recognise and acknowledge the support of key South Australian industry players in championing this outcome, and AFPA looks forward to supporting the new SA Manager role to ensure the best policy outcomes for the industry in the state,” said Mr McCormack.
