The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) welcomes Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s appointment of Tasmanian Senator Jonno Duniam as Assistant Minister for Industry Development, in addition to his existing role of Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries.
AFPA Chief Executive Officer Ross Hampton said Senator Duniam has proven himself a true champion of Australia’s forest industries, and it is noteworthy that Senator Duniam singled out the opportunity to grow Australia’s $24 billion-a-year forest industries in his statement today.
“We are fortunate to have such a staunch supporter of our sector in this important portfolio, as we represent 6 per cent of Australia’s manufacturing output, and our sustainable industries have the potential to grow and play a greater role in Australia’s renewable, low-emissions future,” Mr Hampton said.
“The COVID-19 crisis has shown the crucial role our industries play in providing essential products and services.”
“We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Duniam on growing our forest industries and boost our domestic manufacturing capacity,” Mr Hampton concluded.
