AFPA welcomes start of construction on Hyne Timber’s new GLT plant

The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) welcomes the announcement that the first sod has been turned and construction started on Hyne Timber’s innovative glue laminated timber (GLT) manufacturing plant to be located on their existing processing site near Maryborough in Queensland (QLD), Chief Executive Officer of AFPA, Mr Ross Hampton said today.

“Not only is this a significant new $20 million timber industry investment, which will underpin 80 construction jobs and up to 42 new jobs in the long term, it is also a vote of confidence by both Hyne Timber and the Queensland Government in advanced manufacturing of innovative renewable timber products,” Mr Hampton said.

“GLT is a flexible, zero waste and environmentally friendly alternative for steel and concrete in large-scale commercial and infrastructure construction projects.

“Hyne Timber’s investment will increase the supply of GLT in Australia providing developers with renewable timber product building solutions where traditionally they have not been considered an option.

“This new plant will make Hyne Timber one of the largest GLT manufacturers in the Southern Hemisphere,” Mr Hampton said.

The Queensland Government’s Jobs and Regional Growth Fund is helping support Hyne Timber’s investment in their new GLT manufacturing plant.

“I congratulate Hyne Timber on their innovative investment and the QLD Government for their support of advanced manufacturing in our renewable timber industry,” Mr Hampton concluded.
