MEDIA RELEASE
The State Manager of the Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) South Australian Branch has been endorsed as a candidate for the State’s Legislative Council.
Ms Clare Scriven was selected by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) last night (Wednesday) to run for the Upper House of Parliament at the next State election, to be held on 17 March 2018. She has therefore resigned her AFPA State Branch Manager position.
Chief Executive Officer of AFPA Mr Ross Hampton said, “When AFPA decided the time had come for stronger policy and political representation in South Australia, we were fortunate to find Clare and be able to attract her to the role. Thanks to Clare the Branch is now well established and supported, with our membership encompassing most of the significant forestry and forest related businesses in South Australia – with a focus in the South East. Clare has delivered significant wins for our industries. We wish her well in her newly chosen course.”
AFPA is immediately commencing the search for a replacement State Manager and will be advertising in local and national outlets.
“The role will suit someone keen to make a real difference in the lives of many regional workers, with a passion for our sustainable forest industries,” Mr Hampton said. “The person will need to be adept at navigating the corridors of South Australian Parliament and its processes.”
