Federal Government hits the forest industry nail on the head

MEDIA RELEASE

The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) has applauded the Federal Government statement issued after today’s meeting of National and State Ministers with responsibility for forestry and forest industries.

Chief Executive Officer of AFPA Mr Ross Hampton said, “Federal Government Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Senator Anne Ruston is to be congratulated on her strong statements of support for the future of this most sustainable sector of Australia’s economy.”

“Minister Ruston has affirmed that the Turnbull Government is ‘committed to growing Australia’s forest products industry’. This will be music to the ears of the 120,000 Australian’s employed across the full forest products industry value chain who rely on producing forest, wood, paper, packaging and tissue products for their livelihoods.”

“Minister Ruston is also absolutely correct to identify ours as an industry which is ‘renewable, sustainable, carbon positive’ and with tremendous potential and enormous opportunity still unexplored in the emerging bio economy space.” said Mr Hampton.
