The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) urges the Federal, State and Territory Energy Ministers to support a consensus position at the COAG meeting tomorrow and urgently finalise the National Energy Guarantee (NEG).
“Governments need to ensure policy certainty for our renewable forest industries,” Chief Executive Officer of AFPA, Mr Ross Hampton said today.
“The NEG is Australia’s best plan in more than a decade of policy uncertainty to balance the key national objectives of energy affordability, energy reliability and the transition to a renewable energy, lower carbon future, in line with Australia’s international climate change commitments.
“Large sawmills and paper, tissue and packaging plants are some of Australia’s largest energy users. We have faced skyrocketing energy costs which have put thousands of regional jobs at risk. Politicians must resolve their differences quickly and provide certainty for all large energy users,” Mr Hampton concluded.
