MPs recognise timber investment in Northern Tasmania

The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) welcomes the visit of Federal Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud, as well as Kevin Hogan MP to Timberlink’s Bell Bay facility in Northern Tasmania, Chief Executive Officer of AFPA Mr Ross Hampton said today.

“Earlier this month, the Minister and Mr Hogan toured the Bell Bay mill to see firsthand how further investments could help generate jobs and growth in Northern Tasmania,” Mr Hampton said.

“It comes off the back of Timberlink’s recently announced $100 million investment program for its Australian mills in Bell Bay and Tarpeena in the South East of South Australia. The investment will mean a processing capacity increase of over 15 per cent for Timberlink.

“It’s excellent for Minister Littleproud to see the great work and understand the investment being made for Australia’s forest industries, by companies like Timberlink.

“The investment will also see the creation of 90 jobs in the construction phase and 6 new permanent full-time positions at the Bell Bay mill. With previous capital upgrades, Timberlink has already increased its capacity by 50 per cent since it took over the sites in 2013.

“It was also pleasing to see the Minister’s keen interest in the safety of staff and his recognition of Timberlink’s hard work in that space.

“I encourage all parliamentarians, federal or state, to take an active interest in the work of Australia’s varied forest industries, to understand their excellent contribution to the economy and helping the environment,” Mr Hampton concluded.
